It puts them in a difficult position. A public official can easily say there's an incel problem or domestic terror threat from incels. Now try and do that with the term ugly men. Obviously they wouldn't call us that but if we insisted on calling ourselves ugly men and linked all our struggles back to looks i dont think we’d be seen as a unique threat in its own category.
They'd have to have discussions about looks which normies avoid like the plague.

Incels would still get as much hate, because it's not the term that people take issue with. People hate and are disgusted by the idea that men can face struggles in life due to something as uncontrollable as looks or height. People don't hate the term itself, but what it signifies. We're not supposed to complain about how we're dealt a worse hand in life, but just shut up, accept fate, and live and die alone.
Even if we didn't adopt the term and insisted on being called Ugly Men they'd still come up with a term to describe us. But I feel it makes it harder to denigrate us nonetheless and garners more sympathy from normie males.
The only reason anyone knows about the term is because we adopted it. More than likely they'd just call us right wing or misogynist.

At this point normies' use of the word incel is disjoint from ours. It doesn't matter what we call ourselves anymore, we'll forevermore be incels to them.
