There was a study where they took some fruit flies, a few males, and females. They also used body size as a catalyst (or determinant) to observe some of the changes to their offsprings epi-genetically. What they find is that when the female fruit fly had some her past mates as smaller in size, but bred with a bigger fruit fly is that the fruit flies of that offspring turned out to be smaller than expected.
And Vice versa with the other female flies having her past partners being bigger flies (but bred with a small male fruit fly, and their offsprings turned out to be bigger than their father).
I guess this all comes to the matter of altering ones genetics.
If there's any mistakes, feel free to correct.
