It is a misconception that people go for the best genes, they go for genes similar to their own so they ensure that their traits pass on and the child is healthy. Women prefer guys with low inhib genes because they want to have a child that can quickly be succesful by cheating others (just like they did), since the egotistical strategy seems more effective than the altruistic strategy on the short term. They don't have to be good fathers/mothers if their child can get ahead in other ways. A manipulative kid can live on easy mode as long as it doesn't get caught. Society is a perfect breeding ground for psychopaths.
