The National Family Health Survey (NFHS) - which was conducted among 1.1 hundred thousand women and 1 hundred thousand men showed that the number of sex partners on average for women was higher than for men in many states and Union territories, spread across 707 districts. According to the poll, women in 11 states and UTs had more sexual partners on average than males did. The following are among them: Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, and Tamil Nadu.
In comparison to other states, it was shown that Rajasthan had the most women, who had an average of 3.1 sexual partners as opposed to 1.8 for men.
Additionally, it was discovered that more rural women than urban women and married women than never married, divorced, widowed, or separated women reported having sex with two or more partners in the year before the poll.
Women and men who never married were more likely than those who are now married or have recently been married to report having intercourse with someone who was not their spouse nor a household member among those who reported having sex in the previous 12 months.
