In aquariums serrasalmids are very shy and get easily scared (they have however enormous demands in relation to tank size - with at least 100L per individual- despite almost no moving and require protected areas so that they can escape from each other, therefore you need structure with Vallisnerias/roots/etc.).
Without taking the feeding into account often not very "interesting" animals, some however like the Catoprion mento (which is an ectoparasite feeding on scales of other fish by ramming them) are quite beautiful. Most of what is said about them is a myth with no basis in reality (like with the Candirus).
But unlike women they have a purpose.
