So, let’s imagine something like this happens in your presence:

And let’s assume that:
-you could break up the fight without any negative consequences for you
-the victim does not know that you specifically are present until you intervene
How does helping/not-helping the victim affect your romantic prospects with her (if she survives the beating)?
I think that if you do nothing, your chances with her will not change or even be slightly elevated, because her self-image has been damaged and she is now more likely to accept you since now she no longer considers herself above you.
However, if you do intervene, I think the following will happen:
She will see you as an orbiter/white knight. You are her willing protector. Now she does not feel like she has anything to earn from you (romantic or otherwise) because you already gave her everything for free. (“Something given freely is valued less then as if it was earned.”) So you have effectively lessened your value in her eyes.
Also, she will feel that she should be (by social convention) more attracted to you since you did something for her. However, she will push against that feeling because women don’t like to be told whom to be attracted to.
For example: If you are politically neutral and I told you to vote left or you are a bad person, you will now be more inclined to vote right because you don’t like me for putting pressure on you.
So the victim will be less attracted to you because you put pressure on her to be attracted towards you (trough social convention).
So, don’t help foids in peril unless they have earned it, I guess…
