In life you will see some tall HTN get respected as soon as he walks through the door: people will listen attentively to him and never interupt when he speaks, and he will be treated with a basic level of decency everywhere he goes. On the other hand you will see an ugly short guy - who does nothing wrong, who treats people kindly- get mocked for his appearance and behaviors and walked all over just because he exists. And if the short ugly guy ever tries to act confident or actually demand respect, he will not be taken seriously and ppl will try to bring him down to the place they believe he belongs.
Gaining respect to normies means gaining some a privliege after showing some sort of exemplary behavior. But most manlets/ugly guys don't go around demanding respect from people, most just want to be treated with a basic level of decency and humanity. Telling a bottom-tier guy that "respect is earned" when he complains about people treating him badly is gaslighting from adherents of the "just world" theory.
