Yes, to take this seriously, we need an age range, such as: young adults where young adults describes people from the ages of 18 - 35, for instance. You are correct that saying "young people" is meaningless. Even "young adults" with no age range specified would be better. "Young people" is especially bad because most people under 18 are not employed anyway, and much of the population doesn't approach that until 22 due to college.

You could call that a "cope" on my part, but it's not. If I was coping, I would be in denial over the obvious fact they are happier than me and better off than I am. And I would talk myself up and say I am some kind of extraordinary genius that is above them and is on some grand mission, but I'm not doing that.
