Anime is very popular and Japanese pop culture in general. I would shit all over it becuase fuck weebs, but I like toku and kaiju stuff, so I'm in that boat as well unfortunately. It is extremely gross how much people romanticize Japanese pop culture to the point that they genuinely believe Japanese is just like their favorite anime. At the end of the day the Japanese are just as much selling a fantasy through their entertainment as much as Americans or really any other country would.
