Just work a desk job like in logistics and you are guaranteed never to be in harms way.
Hell, this can be said of any branch of the military. Not everyone is a frontline infantryman.
in croatia you have the alternative of joining the civil protection for 2 months which is basically the police but a separate thing for some reason, i still have no idea why they created that redundancy
In a war, logistics is king. Thus, support units (the tail supporting the tooth), may be subject to attacks. In fact, you are not facing the other grunts, but the special forces of the enemy. They have the tools to make it through the Frontline to target you and your "non combat" buddies.

If you get strike by missiles or attack planes, chances are, special-ish forced are involved. it doesn't even have to be the movie special forces, but I an telling is that, those who are inserted behind the enemy like to attack or scout for logistical assets are 100% not regular grunts. Light infantry or paratroopers likely.
Doubtful that America will wage war in the foreseeable future against a nation that has units capable of striking successfully deep behind the frontlines. Also, I doubt that a Coast Guard warehouse would be a prime target in a war.

I would rather go to a military hospital as an orderly than to fight on the front line. Not only can you be killed on the front line, but your death will be long and painful. You could step on a landmine and die from bleeding and anaphylactic shock. You could lose your limbs and become disabled, or you could be captured and subjected to torture to extract useful information, which could result in a treason charge from your country.
