Given the development of robotics and AI it's very likely in the next 20 years or so we will see some good and fairly affordable life like robot girlfriend (though they will probably only be affordable to upper middle class and up so gotta money max). And that could basically replace the feeling people get off being loved. And I would say it's pretty similar because if you buy into a fully materailisic view of the world us humans don't actually have souls. We are just biological machines made up of different components responding to inputs and outputs which can lead to happy or sad chemicals.

Now given that is established because consciousness itself or souls aren't real that would mean ai isn't much different to a human in general (which is just responding based off influences like how a LLM responds to prompts). So given that and the technology is real enough you could probably immerse yourself in that enough for it to basically work if you accept those premises. The only reason it doesn't work now is not because it's not "real" because as established humans are also just biological machines but because it doesn't mimick human input enough. So basically the conclusion is it will be a good cope and it's coming evauntally most likely given advancements in robotics and AI.

If they become indistinguishable from humans there will be people protesting "robot rights" 100%. The best thing to do would be to buy one as soon as it hits the market and then move to a different country before it becomes illegal.

It's likely we'll die before it's even an affordable option

We will get robot companions in around 5 years not 20. Why do you think it’ll take 20 years?

That's why I'm saving tbh and live in crappy studio even though I have decent job. I get a lot of people aren't as fortunate as me though and don't have money to save.

Will they also have a fragrance emitter "down there" that smells like rotten fish for the truly realistic experience?

I wish I shared your optimism :feelsbadman:
If you look at the pace AI and robotics has been advancing over the past couple years a 5 year prediction isn’t unrealistic. Look at what humanoid robots are capable of today.

Agreed but the main problem isn't if it will be technically possible or not, but: will it be available on the market, and will it be affordable?

I'm more worried about those aspects

The feminists will ruin this like they ruined gaming
