It's not profitable to release full games. Why bother? Release half the game and then charge the rest as DLC. More money in the long run and consumers will pay for it.
This is why we'll never get those games stuffed with content again.
DBZ game with as many characters as the classic games? Nah, wait till dlc releases and you spend over $600 for everything.
Mario Kart with as much content as Wii? Sorry, you'll have to wait for the individual dlc packs before you get as many characters as even double dash.
Monster Hunter with as much content as 4? Err, we cut monsters out of the final release to sell as DLC
Fighting games? Half the characters are locked behind dlc and we'll make it obnoxious to unlock costumes so people pay individually
