Why don't the US government distribute concentrated drugs to solve the addict problem?
Those people are damaged beyond repair, and not taking drugs would actually kill them, so they are in a catch-22 situation.
So they either continue to disgrace themselves and suck off someone to get more drugs, or die.
Fentanyl is one of the worst drugs when it comes to withdrawal syndrome.
A more humane, dignified approach would be to distribute a more concentrated version of Fentanyl or similar drug, by the government of course.
A drug with short euphoria effect combined with short acting but deadly agent will be the Holy Grail of such operations.
It's like the ant poison where you give it to ants who would then distribute it to their colony, poisoning everyone when the agent is activated.
This approach also absolves the drug user of responsibility. I would link this to the atomic bombings of Japan. The Japanese, afraid of dishonor, were reluctant to surrender; the bombs offered them the excuse; similarly, the doused drugs offer the users the excuse of "I am not a zombie who kept taking this shit! I was drugged! Not my fault!!" giving them a moral justification for what little consciousness they have left on the planet.
