I want to start by saying that I am not racist. I do not hate people because of their skin color; I judge them based on their actions and character. I am half-Latino, and most of my friends from childhood were Latino and Black. I do not hate minorities.
I recently saw a video of a local store I’ve visited since I was young, showing what it was like in the 1950s. Back then, it was a Safeway—clean, nice, and filled with polite white people. Today, it’s full of drug addicts, gang members, undocumented immigrants, and Mexican products. Seeing the stark contrast between what it was and what it is now truly saddened me. My mom told me that when she arrived in the United States, this area was predominantly white. She said the white people were very racist. Over time, as more Mexicans and Latinos arrived, they gradually displaced the white population. Now, this area is one of the most dangerous and filthy parts of the city. It’s frustrating. How and why did this happen?
Why does this seem to happen everywhere? Why are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Detroit, and other cities like this? It feels like wherever certain groups go, destruction follows. Is there a greater reason behind it? Redlining, racist policing, or perhaps differences in IQ? I’ve heard of the bell curve, and it piques my interest. I think my IQ might be around 90 because of my mixed heritage. I sometimes wonder what it would be like if I were 100% white and lived a typical white life. Maybe my IQ would be around 105, and I’d have a father who stayed, since it’s common for fathers of people of color to leave. I hate being mixed-race.
