Personaly i dont feel like it's true at all. We are supposedly freer to be this or that, not having to adapt to those horrible narrow "patriarcal norms" but this is just the theory progressive morons pull out of their asses cause in practice, through a set of factors they completely ignore (factors not necessarily tied to feminism but no less important) the world never was the caricature they make it out to be.
The fact that this chubby, homely looking guy also known for his eating and drinking habits (Babe Ruth) was a revered national hero in the domain of sports of all things really says a lot.
According to progressives and their distorted worldview, the epitome of patriarchy/toxic masculinity would be some assholish gym dudebro checking out his muscles in the mirror and yet the biggest athletic icon for men throughout the still "patriarchal" USA was some guy that could've been a poster child for today's fat acceptance. The biggest irony being that many women would now reject this guy for being out of shape.
There was no other time in history where men were expected to perform as they are now — physically, emotionally, profesionally, socially — to the point of abject sadism. What the fuck are those progressives talking about ?
One thing progressives love to do is taking things at face-value, ie blaming patriarchy as a vector of social norms and rules, but ignoring or omitting on purpose that those norms and rules could be navigated with much more grace than modern injunctions, a grace that progressives neo-liberal and postmodern psychosocial wiring is completely bereft of ; more often than not they're actually more authoritarian and inhumane than any norm-controlling society of the past, because those societies had the merit of making their intentions clear and their goals were, in the end, prosocial, unlike the current war of all against all in the name of total "liberty".
