I've observed this everywhere from the one autistic troon in my HS who was obsessed with Sonic, to Chris Chan, to even people on this forum. They like video games, cartoons, etc that are designed for children despite being adults. What do you think is behind this? I'm autistic myself and I couldn’t care less about media I liked as a kid.

fixation i guess. they don't habituate or let shit go like normal ppl.

I would still be watching kids cartoons if the new ones weren't horribly made.

sometimes you are chasing nostalgia or sometimes you bonded with the media or it comforted you in a hard time

Perhaps, at heart, they want to be children. I do not know how to explain it. A kind of attempt to return to a time when most of their problems were far behind them. I myself often review TV series or movies, anime that I watched as a child.

The same reason they get obsessed with dinosaurs or trains. It's how their brains work.

This is due to the hyper fixation that individuals with Autism posses, is abnormal in intensity or obscurity. Everything from Micro-biology, trains or porn.

Many with Autism experiences a life of social alienation, as such many did nothing besides watching anime or play video-games, even long after it was no longer socially acceptable for their age. They maintain the hyper fixation from childhood and don't discover a new one.

Long answer is reading an paper about hyper fixation and autism, and maybe one on trauma.
