Why would anyone get one is the question. It has no games and all its exclusives are ported to PC. It's nigh useless and it'll soon turn into a cloud gaming company

Maybe it's one of those things that just divisive.
In the past, I've thought certain things were universally hated, but then I notice that they've gotten very reasonable scores online and stuff. Sometimes the reality is that the haters are just really loud for some reason.
And I don't have an Xbox atm. But since I really dislike Windows 10 and 11 I'm looking for a console to pair up with my Linux PC

Well my first console was a PS1, back in 2001.
But after my grandma gifted to me the classic xbox I fell in love with it.
Xbox is great, I have a PC too but don't see anything wrong with Xbox.

Emulation yeah it can be fun. I haven't done it in ages though to be honest. Some consoles work a lot better than others.
I’d also say that easier access to older games in PC is also a good point
If you have a Linux PC you can just upgrade it and dual boot Windows for gaming or just use Wine tbh
I just find modern Windows a real pain, you know?

a) the PS5 looks pretty darn ugly, you must admit
b) its library seems to be 95% either RPGs or Astro Bot.
I actually never got that. I did have issues with the drives sticking though and I have to open them up and replace this little rubber band thing that keeps wearing out.
Anything that has to do with microsoft is a problem.
I do think modern Windows is awful. But Xbox is a different department. It seems to me like it operates quite differently.

We have Gears of War, Forza, and Halo, but we just gave PS Forza so who knows what else we'll be giving away.
And compared to PS, we look like a piece of burning dog shit. Their exclusives are way better.
Like God of War, The Spider-man games, Ghost of Tsushima, etc.
But PS servers do seem to crash a lot more than ours But that's about all we've got over PS.
Overall, PS just performs better. Think of it this way, PS is the Chad and Xbox is the sub5 truecel.

I think I just don't find the PlayStation very exciting anymore.
When I see it I just think it looks ugly, jettisoned all its best IPs and is now just for RPGs.

Nintendo is underpowered, Xbox is struggling, Windows sucks, Linux doesn't have a huge library.
PlayStation... I can see why in this landscape it sells, lol. But as I say I don't think it's great either.
I don’t hate the Xbox, it has definitely fell off a bit, but I still have many good memories on the one and 360 from my childhood

Because I cant play league of legends, tarkov, cs go, project zomboid and other games there.
Also using alt tab feels really bad on consoles. It is hard to use youtube, look at some game's wiki for some info etc.

It's mediocre they rarely have games worth playing but at least gamepass is a cheap way of playing new games but they are missing a lot of asian rpgs so i can't rate it more than 3/5.
I actually think that all the major gaming platforms at the moment have had times when I'd say they were excellent.
Most recently:

- PlayStation 3
- Windows 7
- GameCube
One thing that surprises me about that little list too is that 3 of the 4 are from the same generation.

Since the launch and reveal event of the xbox one it just could not ever recover.
Microsoft has then and there declared that they don't give a flying fuck about gaming or the gamer community.
They ruined all their relutation from the 360 era with this shit.
The only reason I own an xbox one s is because it is a disc based system and the used games are cheap.
I only ever buy third party releases.
The huge downside to that console is the always online "feature".
Like, I can't fo a first time setup without the internet to just play a singleplayer game offline.
That just does not work
Also, the save files are all stored in a cloud. Free of charge but I do not have access to my own save files.
I will never buy any other xbox console again, unless they change their ways, but they won't and that is because Microsoft has LOADS of money.
The video game business is not even thriir primary income source.
It is Sony that makes most of its money with the Pplaystation brand.

Microsoft has this gay hiring policy where devs only get contracted up to 18 months and then replaced.
It is probably about money and other benefits.
That is why the exclusive titles will suffer.
Only good for third party titles.

Maybe it's because they have a more Western a pro-action/pro-FPS focus.

Xbox has this sleek look and action game focus which I like.
The Xbox One thing definitely hit the brand's reputation hard... but I kind of assumed it had been long enough now that that wasn't a major factor anymore.

The only thing that I really love about the xbox one and up is how well built they are. Easy to disassemble and service.
The first xbox one sucks in that regard, though. At least is is cooled well.
The one S is far easier to disassemble, but still just snap-in noses are being used, which sucks.
The one x is perfect.
The series S is a dream, but lacks a disc drive which is a HUGE deal breaker.
The series x is too expensive still, for what you're getting, imo.

Also, once your console is hardware banned it becomes an expensive brick.
While you can play some singleplayer games on such a console, you cannot save your progress in any of those games.

I get that there's a functional angle, but if you're dropping hundreds of pounds/dollars on something you surely want to feel at least a BIT excited about the purchase.

I've seen the CD32 and yeah, it looks nice. I've also had hands on most Sega consoles of the 90s.
To me, they all looked cheap.
The PS1 looked and felt like a quality product and I still have mine and it all still wirrks flawelessly, even the controllers.
No stick drift either.
Even Sony stopped making good controllers after the PS2, imo.
The Dreamcast was a loud POS and Sega just couldn't recover from the Sega Mega Drive desaster, even when selling the console much cheaper than the PS2.
I remember its last price drop was down to 99€ with two joypads, afaik, and a game.
Sounded like a steal, but just a year after they quit for good.
The saturn also was too expensive and just too ahead of its time. On paper it was more powerful than the ps1 but no dev, other than SEGAs own dev team, could harness that power.
Look at the prototype for Shenmue on the Sega Saturn. Mind blowing for its time.

I wish capable devs would have released the Spyro trilogy and Crash Bandicoot trilogy on the Saturn as well.
