Slightly clickbait-y title, lol

I worked this out today!

I was thinking "Why are there fewer impactful games on Switch compared to back on the 'Cube?"

Especially if you exclude first-party games.

But it's because the 'Cube was actually really powerful for its time, so it got lots of great AAAs and AAs. Whereas the Switch is very underpowered compared to the competition (PC, Xbox, PS) so it ends up with... kind of watered-down games or simple games, oftentimes.

Maybe the Switch isn't really a very exciting machine unless you love the first-party titles.

Probably PC since I can play almost any game on it.
I only collect console stuff for the sake of collecting really, and sometimes it's cool to play with retro hardware.
If I had to pick a non-PC answer I would probably pick Playstation since that's what I grew up playing the most.

I like PC a lot but I just don't like modern Windows.

Yeah and I think the Switch 2 will have similar issues.

I don't mind the games looking worse than other platforms, but it sucks always feeling like you're left in the dust.

I prefer the switch. its games are more minimalistic in features,
and don't feel like a job like most AAA games are on PC.

AAAA games are too fucking grindy.

This is actually something that puts me off the PS. Every game seems to be either an RPG or be RPG-adjacent.

I do think with AA or AAA games... there's plenty of room to make them action-packed, fun and... even fairly simple and lean but... it depends on the vision of the developer I suppose.

Back in the 'Cube days I played a lot of PSO, Sonic Heroes and Ikaruga. It was fun :D

Probably because the novelty you had worn off, unless if you find others better than switch.

Playstation.

I hardly care much for PC atm.

I grew up with the gamecube and barely played the switch but yeah overall the games are getting very stale and feeling like a "product" rather than art, there's no soul in modern games. They are just made for sale and are disposable as hell when a "new product" comes out. Quite sad. :feelsbadman:

PC. In terms of consoles, the Wii.

Thing is... this has happened before when I thought I was bored of gaming but it turned out that the "landscape" had just changed.

Back then I pivoted from AAA to indie.

Now... I'm thinking I should pivot from Windows to having both a Linux PC and an Xbox.

Normie tourists that came to gaming and made yt channels to make switch games reviews are now leaving at mass. And when even normies get bored then you know that your console is just dogshit with no games after just a handful of titles.

PC can play Switch and Gamecube games, so it automatically wins.

PC is only platform that matters. I can play hundreds of thousands of games native to pc i can emulate a huge library of PS2/PS3/Gamecube/360/Switch/Snes/PSP games, i can watch anime/yt, listen to music and read books about jews killing goyims with vaccines at a press of a button.

Switch was a scam. So was xbone and series x. Glad I just stuck with my PS4 which the switch 2 will copy anyway so that also will be another scam.

GameCube had some pretty good games. I love super smash bros brawl and the windwaker.

The advantage of a newer machine though... or at least a big one... is access to new releases.

The big games are already out on the PS4. Elden ring, red dead 2 etc. we are past getting great new games. Better off just treating video games like chad treats his side girl. Trust me I don't miss not having dragons dogma 2 or stalker 2 on the PS4 lol.

I guess it depends if there are games you actually want yeah :)

The 3Ds mogs them all.

Also you can mod nearly every game easily for PC

Because switch's hardware is from 2015.

The games run worse than Wii u games. Likely because prior to the switch, Nintendo was designing their own GPUS. The Wii U GPU was a descendent of the GameCube and Wii's GPU. Nintendo outsourced the switch's GPU to Nvidia.

This problem began with the Wii U but only really affected Mario. Now it's spread to basically all of Nintendo's IPs. Everything is designed to be ultra accessible and dumbed down for the masses.

The novelty of playing console games on the go has faded.

PC is cheaper in the long run. The issue is getting into it in the first place has a high cost barrier. Also, modern games are horribly optimized on PC.

switch been baf nothing better than retro classic nintendo games from ds

Huh. The second point there is interesting. I'll have to compare that!

To be fair the Wii U was much bigger. More room for hardware.

And the Switch... I mean... it's a tablet. And even though it was released in 2017, apparently it's only about as powerful as a PS3. It's probably not even that.

You will never enjoy a console like when you where a kid or a teen. Is just nostalgia and good memories

Mario Sunshine vs Mario Odyssey
Twilight Princess and Wind Waker vs Botw and Totk
Smash Melee vs Smash Ultimate
Pokemon Stadium vs Pokemon Scarlet
Metroid Prime vs Metroid Dread
OG Animal Crossing vs New Horizons

To be honest... I guess I was subconsciously omitting the Nintendo releases because I don't really get on with them XD

The only exceptions there... Odyssey, Wind Waker... and that's all.

PC since I can also emulate dozens of console games on one.

It's great to discover gems from the golden era.

One thing I notice is that the platform you game on really does matter.

Generally speaking not as much as the games, but if you hate the platform then it has a big impact.

Right now... NONE of the major platforms do much for me. PS, Xbox, Switch, PC (with Windows)... hm. For the first time none of them really strike me as particularly good.

Maybe it's a good time to just use a PC with Linux on it.

No reason to own a cucksole when all they do is censor the games that keeps us going. I thought for a long time the big three were in decline, and as it stands, they are. If you can't afford a Gaming PC, just buy a PS3 or PSVita, certainly better than any PS4 or Xbox One.

It's an interesting dynamic these days. The Switch is huge but... at its roots it's surely a handheld not a home console. It's a tablet with a dock. So... it replaced the 3DS and also the Wii U.

Once you factor that in it looks a lot smaller. And the PS5 and Series machines have been struggling too.

It's nice to have new games... but yeah people shouldn't feel that they have to own platforms that mistreat them as a consumer just to play them.

and third parties like metal gear solid vol 1, bayonetta 1/2/3, red dead redemption 1, final fantasy 7 through 12 (& more), hollow knight, diablo 3, elder scrolls 5 skyrim, astral chain, witcher 3, devil may cry 3, dark douls remastered, newest sonic console games, bioshock, monster hunter, celeste, steamworld dig 1/2, fortnite, minecraft, cuphead, hades, assassin creed 3 & 4, resident evil (more than gc & hd), doom, octopath traveler 1/2, among us, dragon ball fighter Z, daemon ex machina, undertale, dragon quest 11 (+ collections), cadence of hyrule, persona, the great ace attorney chronicles, rune factory 4, paradise killer, super meat boy, divinity 2, katana zero, plants vs zombies, crash bandicoot, spyro, castlevania collection, shovel knight trove (collection), mortal kombat, marvel ultimate alliance 3, mario rabbids, marvel vs capcom collection, shantae ultimate edition, rayman legends de, bravely default, megaman collection, street fighter collection, snk collection, pacman, lego, just dance, super monkey ball, tony hawk, one piece, snipperclips (for family), there’s even a game called ‘never give up’ JFL

This gen’s game devs prioritized output on the switch platform for the console gaming market. Especially during the later half of the switch 1’s life cycle.

Both have no backwards compatibility, but switch supports gamecube controllers (as all successor consoles do).

Gamecube only had online support (LAN necessary) for mario kart and kirby air ride with servers shutting down in 2007.
Back then, they were porting pop culture games focused on films that their competitors had. Mainly sony. They had a game for every popular tv show and movie I swear JFL. I think ER played one of these games iirc. A star wars or legos game as a kid that got him hooked onto vidya for life. Examples: mutant ninja turtles, the incredibles, the simpsons, shrek, harry potter, batman, spongebob, hulk, catwoman, the polar express, bad boys, shrek, ice age, chicken little, jimmy neutron, lord of the rings the hobbit,
It looks like it was chosen based on anyone they can get their licenses on.

The switch likely feels that way because the biggest sellers aren’t brand new characters, stories and franchises. But the third parties are.

P.S. this is me being completely upfront about any potential biases: there were some unknown rpg games for the switch that I came across with decent-ish ratings, but didn’t include on the list because I don’t have experience with rpgs to judge off of, so if it looked mid, and I felt like there no hype ‘aura’ around it, I ignored it.

Do you see my point though that the Switch missed out on a lot of big games because of its very tame specs?

Yeah, the switch missed out on porting certain games that can only exclusively be experienced on sony or msft.
The gamecube was released after the ps2. So porting wasn’t a problem. But I’ll be very honest, as a mid zoomer, I have never heard a little more than half of those third party gamecube games, as well as a good amount of the first party.

The switch library is still huge tho and the typical sony/msft sports games are flopping hard this generation. I heard that nba2k peaked with nba2k16 or nba2k17, with more people siding towards nba2k16. I assume it’s the same for madden, mls, etc, because they’re all under the same game studios I think.

Tbh, what big games is the switch missing that is making it overrated?

I think there's just a fundamental issue with releasing a console that isn't powerful enough to support the majority of current AAA and AA releases. Or even many indie releases.

I know AAAs have been relatively poor of late though.

i'll look into this.

now that I think of it, 2017 was the last year of cultural peak. The last years of YouTube before it went extremely ban happy and cucked with their guidelines. Fashion, meme culture, pop culture, new music artists & sound waves, movies not being overtly cucked, so many new faces, new apps. Things have gotten stale/stagnant since then

Yeah it's tricky.

Is it best to play retro or to carefully select modern games or... maybe a bit of both. Hm :feelsStudy:
