Why do people buy 4TB drives? Seems overkill unless you work in media or have a business

Ded srs 4TB is a shitton of storage even for modern standards. Probably the disk will break way before you fill it up if you give it a normal use. Unless your intention is to have a huge movie and series library, you never uninstall games or you download too much porn in 4K resolution 4TB seems overkill unless you work in media (I know video, animation and photo files can be huge) or you own a business and need to keep lots of important data for your records. 1TB is more than enough if you uninstall games after completing them or if you're not a data hoarder AKA never delete files you don't use or need anymore.

GTA takes up 100GBs
2K takes up 100GBs
Madden takes up 70GBs
Red Dead takes up like 50GBs
my modded install of Assetto Corsa is like 200GBs
My backup of all my phone photos from when i was younger is like 50GBs

Stuff adds up quick

1TB is more than enough if you uninstall games after completing them

Not everyone plays one-and-done story games, a lot of people play games with loads of replayability that they keep going back to

photos and vids of your favorite porn/photos and videos from your phone take up a lot of space

and I never know when I may need to factory restart my PC so I need a lot of external storage.

of course you can store all your shit on dropbox, google cloud, one drive, etc but do you really wanna store your shit there lol
