Well, as a Star Trekker from way back, I point to an episode called "Elaan of Troyus," in which a bratty princess from one planet is being ferried by the Enterprise to be married to a guy from a planet they are trying to avoid a war with. It falls on Captain Kirk to teach her some manners along the way. Since Kirk isn't kissing her feet as she is accustomed to on her homeworld, she resorts to crying. And she doesn't tell him that her tears act as a super love potion as he wipes them from her cheek. This is how the women control their men.
Of course, this is in science fiction trappings, but the message is still clear. Countless men have allowed women to control them, just because she can turn on the waterworks on cue and melt his heart (and, often, his brain, too).
I recall coming out of the supermarket one day to the sight of a woman who perched herself by the exit, bawling her eyes out. I almost went over to her to ask what was wrong. But then I asked myself, who does that? If you are genuinely hurt to tears, you seek privacy, not an audience. Clearly, she figured she'd catch one male pigeon from the procession leaving the store. But it wasn't me I'll tell you that.
