Why wouldn’t capitalists hold onto their power by owning all the machines and robots to trade amongst themselves? They would probably have their own private armies and end up owning city states and domains of power just like feudal lords of the past.
 
Do they? Can't speak for commies but I had the same idea once. If capitalists stop needing labour, they'll just massacre the toiling masses.
