I feel like cashier jobs because they are customer facing, you get to see about 300 customers in a day that judge you as a loser. Some of these customers are even very attractive making you feel like a bigger loser. Then you have customers that don't even try to hide the fact they view you as subhuman and will humiliate you to your face. Then there is the uniform they make you wear that dries every pussy in a mile radius. If you have attractive coworkers its even worse torment. There really is nothing about working as a cashier whether at a fast food joint, grocery store or big box store that feels dignifying and Ive worked at every single one of those locations. I don't feel the same humiliation working as a medical assistant, bar-back or botanical garden hand despite the job paying the same amount. It makes me think being a cashier should pay more than other minimum wage jobs just because of the abuse and humiliation that comes with being one. I don't know how people work as a cashier for years on end, because I always feel intense shame everyday that I worked as a cashier to the point where Ive made up my mind to never work as one again despite it limiting my pool of potential job options.
