Why can you trick yourself into thinking you're better looking when looking in the mirror?

When I look at myself in the mirror or any reflection I can convince myself I'm okay looking, if not above average. But when I see myself in a picture I look much worse, and when I see myself in a video I think "that can't be me." Can anyone else relate?

I can't look in a mirror without cringing. I take my glasses off for my videos just because I want to die when I can see my face.

Some people look in the mirror and see themselves as better looking than they are, some look in the mirrors and see themselves as worse looking than they are.

Pretty much the same. I feel like I am worst in motion. Thrre is something subhuman not only about my looks, but my movements as well.

mirror = rope fuel.
I live alone and cover mine so I don't become depressed every time I wash my hands.
Never took a selfie either, but some people have filmed me.
Tbh i know already I am subhuman so I am prepared to look like a walking pile of shit.
It's more my voice in recordings that puts me off the most.

I look much better in well taken photos than mirrors and videos.

I hate having pictures taken. Even for id, I just hate it. Also I can never say still for a pose. Even for group photos I opt out. The mirror is very deceiving.

How you look in a mirror is same as how you are percieved irl. You can even train yourself to confirm this as I did, by looking at a true mirror for a month as opposed to a regular mirror. You don’t look any better or worse than what you look like irl.

So do I need a true mirror or do I look like what I look in a regular mirror?

If you want to see for certain that there is no difference, you can only look at true mirrors for a month and you will find that you prefer it over how you look on a normal mirror.

This was discussed in lookism ad nauseam. Mirrors don’t make you look better to yourself, I can post flipped images of MM’s and they remain attractive and flipped images of ugly people remain ugly.
