Nah, it's because the industry has studied normie behaviour and designed media to satisfy their wants. There are more normies than geeks and nerds. If you want to make more money thrnn you have to attract a larger consumer base.
Nerds and geeks just don't cut it anymore.

Because it's the easiest way to create context for the story plus you can usually skip them (in most games). You should complain about those unskippable walking segments instead, the ones that add nothing to the story
