Idk I went to the mall yesterday with my mom and it was pretty busy for a Thursday
Parking may be difficult and is not free in city centers. People drive to malls and supermarkets next to highways instead.

1. Stuff is now online. Much cheaper than having a store front paying high street city centre expensive rents, taxes, electricity, heating, security etc etc etc etc
2. People with disposable income also spend it. That means people in UK are broke ass niggaz. UK GDP per capita is low i.e 3rd world. Its no longer a rich country otherwise people would be in town for fancy fun times because those empty shops can be turned into other fun stuff for people who want a day out and enjoyment.
The UK economy basically has not grown at all in the last 25 years. Even though it is importing millions of shitskin 3 rd worlders to boost its economy because they pay rent, buy food which means shop workers employed, farmers get cash for growing food, sales of fuel for cars etc etc etc etc. Despite mass immigration and everything the economy is still stagnant. That means without immighration the economy actually would have shrank like 20-25%

Even if people are on their phones why are all the pubs and clubs closed and not coming back? Where do the young go to drink and party these days?
I see a shit ton of Turkish barbers and Eastern European shops in my town but a lot of the old English shops that were there for years have shut down.

I do think that generally speaking "experiences" don't get replaced by apps. For example there isn't an app for Disneyland! So to speak
Maybe nightclubs and stuff were just too functional.
As for partying and stuff... I'm not sure what people do now. I mean I suppose you can technically party anywhere you want. Most of my best memories partying were at people's houses. And the rave scene proceeded the nightclub scene as I understand.
