There has been 2 major assassinations in Japan

Assassination of Inejirō Asanuma

1766528387660

Where a 17 year old Japanese ultranationalist assassinated the head of the Japanese socialist party (what was a L in my opinion but that's a different topic for a different day) when he was leading in poles and predicted to win the next election his assassination caused the party to lose the next election massively and caused the party to collapse and has never made a resurgence

Assassination of Shinzo Abe

1766528756359

When a depressed man shot and killed the longest serving ex pm of Japan over his connection to the unification church of Korea what exploited his mother of her money and caused his brother to kill himself this assassination caused the Japanese public to look into the church and after investigations it's caused the church to be disbanded and the man who did it is widely liked and has been sent manga in prison

Every other assassination I can think of has backfired for example MLK caused the civil rights act to signed sooner and even Charlie Kirk has just empowered nick Fuentes massively

Assassinations are a part of Japanese political culture.

Before 1940s, the civilian, IJA, and IJN, and within them their inner factions (皇道派控制派 for IJA and 條約派艦隊派 for IJN)would fight between each other by assassinating each other politicans.

Yes. The branches had bitter rivalry, and absolutely hated each other.

there have been 4 US presidents assassinated.

They are true samurai

Assassination of McKinley ended the age where the titans of industry had complete control of the government

Yamagami is a fascinating case to me. He was a shūkyō nisei reactionary who arguably achieved his goal. The UC does still operate in Japan, but as of March this year, it legally lost the tax exemptions common to religious organizations. More importantly, public's perception of it became unfavorable.
