Serious Why are the male model and Hollywood actor phenotypes so different? And why is the "male model" look so unpopular in movies and pop culture?

I think it's mainly because of the connections, there is a reason why the entire movie industry is centred in small area of California.

That also doesn't make any sense at all. Yes connections play a role in getting your start.

But when Disney is bankrolling a movie they're trying to make $1 billion off of, they aren't giving roles out based on "connections". It's purely a business decision about who is going to bring in the most viewers and thus most cash.

The guys sitting on the board don't give a shit about who knows who. They just care about their stock value and how many more millions they will make if it stays #1 at the box office another few weeks.

Connections might be the difference between whether you get your first audition or not. But it's not like male model types are being systematically cut out of the Hollywood system because they "don't have connections". If it wasn't Matt Damon in The Great Wall, it would likely be some other 6-7.5/10 white guy. Because that's what sells best.

Tom Cruise is probably near the top of the looks pyramid in Hollywood, and I have often speculated if he didn't have the crooked teeth and humped nose he probably wouldn't have gotten so far:

Having a perfect face in Hollywood for a man does not seem to take you far. That's about as close to perfect as you're allowed to go. It seems you need to look "attainable" for people to want to watch you in these movies.

young brad pitt is easilly 8.5/10 if not higher. His cheekbones could be a little higher. But he has a strong angled jaw, hooded eyes with very slight positive tilt.

Chris hemsworth easily an 8.

Honestly I'm starting to think that the "male model" look is just sub 10% body fat. While actors will normally be at a healthy body fat %

Brad Pitt is close to it. Chris Hemsworth doesn't have the cheekbones but he's also close. These guys are the upper limit for big male actors.

Most major actors pulling in tens of millions a year and putting millions of people in theater seats are 6.5-7.5/10 white guys.

There is no direct correlation where the better looking you are the more money you make. Past this looks zone, there actually appears to be a disincentive for better looking guys. Guys like Rob Lowe, Colton Haynes, and Alex Pettyfer have mediocre careers while guys like Paul Rudd succeed over and over and over.

SuperSlayers like Shimanski are unseen in Hollywood and make less than $1 mil per year in their current modeling jobs:

While guys like this get paid hundreds of millions over long careers in Hollywood:

There is a big difference between modeling and acting.
