This is probably a modern thing because the modern state is designed to suite the Germanic mentality. This is why Germanic people are so loyal to modern nation states in which they reside in. In time, they started regarding these states and institutions as their own and put their trust in them, abandoning any need for community. In turn, the modern states count on Germanic people as their loyal servants and take their support for granted and focus more on doing favors for other groups that still need to be integrated.

In the Balkans and Eastern Europe, the modern state didn't suit the mentality of the people and people became more cynical about the system, preserving some glimpses of their old community life to this day. This is even more extreme in non-Western countries.

The modern state is the final form of Germanic society and thus they have nothing outside of it.

Historically, the Romans regarded the Germanic people as anti-degenerate, opposed to their own culture.
