Most people (even educated and high IQ people) will endlessly rationalize whatever the cultural norms in their part of the world (and to some extent, within their specific demographic) are. When discussing whatever that topic happens to be (in this case, circumcision) they start with whatever their predetermined conclusion is (i.e. what their culture has told them is correct) and work backwards from there.
To give one example, here in the west, dogs are considered "family" and many people (particularly white people under 35) openly value a dog's life more than a human's. Just look at how many redditors talk about how "dogs are better than people" and how "we don't deserve dogs". Since most of reddit is white, young(ish) and western, these comments always get upvoted to the heavens. Dogs have such an exalted status in the west that not only are dogs that bark all night on a regular basis tolerated, but many people unironically make the argument that dogs can "sense evil" and use this to justify unprovoked attacks, even on small children. But pretty much all westerners would at least say a dog's life has infinitely more value than any other animal, even if they dislike dogs.
Now compare this to a country like China, where people eat dogs. The fact that citizens of the PRC eat dogs infuriates westerners. When this gets brought up, even many ultra politically correct westerners will make racist or borderline racist comments, out of pure rage at the thought of Chinese citizens consuming the meat of the saintly doggo. Most of these same people will eat bacon for breakfast everyday and Big Macs for lunch without a single thought of the pain and suffering of pigs and cows, both of whom are just as capable of pain and suffering as dogs and by some standards are more intelligent than most dog breeds. Even diehard ultra vegans view the consumption of dog meat far more egregious than the consumption of pork or beef, as the former elicits a much more emotional response from them than either of the latter.
If you ask a westerner why eating dogs is worse than eating pigs or cows, their answer will be something like "because dogs are pets" "because dogs are family", or some other answer that ultimately translates to "Dogs have more value because my culture says so". Some will become enraged that you would even dare as such a question because of it's implications.
Personally I'd save a pig's life over a dog's. No pig ever woke me up in the middle of the night and caused me to have to go to work fatigued from sleep deprivation like the dogs that the pieces of shit on the floor below me own do on a regular basis. But my opinion is only shared by an exceptionally small percentage of westerners. Almost certainly under 0.001 percent. I'm sure a significant portion of the forum would agree with me but that's largely due to the fact that members of this forum aren't as strongly biased in favor of societal norms since most of us don't view society as inherently positive for many obvious reasons that I'm not going to get into due to time constraints and the fact that this post is too long and thus "TL;DR" to most as it is.
