Mental issues are mainly caused by problems in childhood, they just say its inherited so people can put the blame on genetics, same thing with how people treat obesity, nothing to do with genetics. Not to say there aren't genetic dispositions to certain mental conditions such as schizophrenia, also schitzophrenia can be "activated" by certain drugs primarily seen in marijuana usage.
