I'm 36 this year, and I remember coming across Gilmartin's book on loveshyness sometime around 2003/4. It really opened my eyes, so much self-recognition did I find in Gilmartin's descriptions. I'd never been successful with women (of course), but I'd always held onto the typical bluepill hope that one day I'd meet my unicorn princess, etc. I also remember the Yahoo support mailing groups for loveshy men. The blackpill wasn't as prevalent then as it is now, with most of those guys holding out some hope that their condition might be "cured". I guess most of them stayed incel, whether they discovered that particular label or not.
I also remember the early incel support board, which existed from about 2010 I believe. They did allow foids on there, and the simping/bluepilling/victim blaming on there reached unholy levels. At the time, I thought it was my fault that I didn't get along with those people, but in retrospect I guess I was a bit blackpilled already then. Nearly got kicked out for being "too negative". Eventually I left of my own accord.
Afterwards I dabbled in MGTOW a bit. (I still enjoy some of Stardusk's content btw.) But that also didn't provide a true "home". Many of those guys are simply bluepillers in denial, one blowjob away from the plantation as the saying goes.
So that's how I eventually ended up here.
