I’m not sure I’d call them friends in the sense that I know they don’t value me much (and honestly the feeling is mutual since they’re all communist pronoun people, I mean let’s be real how close could I ever really be with people like that?) but there is a small group I run tabletop games for.

I’d rather play of course, least sometimes, but if I don’t run it there is no game since none of them will (and if they did they wouldn’t invite me if I’m betting here).

But yes, all that to say I have some friend-like acquaintances. Not close ones, but they’re people to spend time with at least. I do it because it beats being entirely alone all the time.

I used to have two or three really good friends, or at least I thought I did many years ago. After I moved things fell apart and one of them got married (then divorced) so he pretty much disappeared after that.

Friends aren’t like family at least normally — you cant count of them and the relationship is very transactional albeit that’s not stated or anything. Maybe that’s different if you grew up with someone. I had one friend who I knew for like 15 years, thought he was my best friend and we were like brothers/family. He ghosted me after college though, not sure what I did.

I don’t know, I used to care about people genuinely. Now I feel like you can’t trust anybody basically ever (even if you marry someone, you have to cover your ass, in fact marriage in general is just a horrible deal for men and exposes you to tremendous risk in the modern day). I also have to be very careful to hide my real views constantly because if people around me knew what I actually believed they would despise me. I think what I believe is true same as anybody but things get tough socially when your views don’t align with the current norms.
