In my experience in a work environment HEAVY with both, North Indians. The bias against the Chinese, Northern or otherwise, is stunning. If you're talking Punjabis and Muslims, then there's virtually no comparison. At least from what I see. @Yonno above said it best: from western standards, many Chinese seem just too foreign.
