They did have basic rights. Black slave owners could vote, they could do whatever. The slave class couldn’t, and that included primarily black slaves and Irish indentured servants. It wasn’t a race problem, it was a class problem. And most of the bottom class was blacks because looking at IQ they were the least likely to be anything but slaves. And it was good for them too (8 hour work days and a free house+food, with slave owners sometimes even giving their slaves an education)
Because the entire cabinet of the United States south was black and rigged by Ulysses S grant. It was not legally viable to take back the south. How did Whites know Blacks IQ? They didn't allow blacks to go to school, or read to begin with. And the first I.Q test was made in 1904, years after slavery was abolished.
How was it good for them? There are photos and sketches of slaves and blacks getting Lynched, Whipped and female slaves getting raped. Many slaves had their families broken up during auctions, never to be seen again. Slave living conditions were shit too, back then they shared cramped spaces.

There were plenty of slave owners that (out of the goodness of their heart) gave blacks and poor white workers the opportunity to read and write. Even the most prominent black men came from that, like Federick Douglas. His master told him how to read and write (and he betrayed him of course with that knowledge) Again, there was white “slaves” too, and they were treated basically the same. What slavery should’ve been was a way for a dumb group of people to do negligible labor and that was what they did. And it was good.
