The only three Mario games I have never tried playing are: Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Only one I have not played is sunshine. I prefer Paper Mario 64 to galaxy though
This should be an interesting poll, because those three games came out relatively close to one another.
Sunshine is wacky
Paper Mario looked too faggy for me, even for a Nintendo game. I remember being a boy and seeing the demo in stores and thinking to myself, "Those Japs have lost it."
Never played Paper Mario, but some of the level design in Sunshine just flat out pissed me off while playing.

Super Mario Sunshine is the best 3d Mario game. There's only three bad levels in the entire game. The pachinco machine, the sand bird, and the chuck ya secret level. The rest is wonderful.
Super Mario Galaxy is nearly perfect, but I'm somewhat bitter against the first one because completing it is more obnoxious than completing any other 3D Mario game.
Paper Mario is probably the worst, although it's still enjoyable.
Shigeru Miyamoto has no consistency. He says whatever is needed to sell games. During the 2000s he was pushing Mario as a series with difficulty that could pander to older gamers. He requested that Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros Wii be made more difficult. He didn't start spouting this "Mario needs to be accessible and easy" nonsense untill the 2010s. Likely in response to Galaxy and Galaxy 2 selling less. He's barely involved with designing Mario games after 64 anyway. 64 was the last Mario game he actually directed.

I believe I was in the 6th grade when it came out, I just did not have the energy to beg my mom to buy it for me.
I was in second grade iirc and i was still playing with my dad's PS1 back then

I never liked galaxy, the controls are weird and its full of gimmicks
Sunshine and it's not even FUCKING CLOSE, it's such a clunky bordering on unfinished game at times and it just barely feels like Mario, it's not bad by any means I'm just saying it's definitely the one I got back to the least. Also Galaxy is objectively the best one period
I hated Sunshine. I kept slipping and sliding which is incredibly annoying in platformers.
I want to vote Paper Mario, though. It's not a good RPG, and the remaster was even worse. The Mario name is the only reason anyone cares about that weird series.

Sunshine... it's pleasant but I don't really like all these gimmicks for Mario like Fludd or that hat thing. I think Mario works best when it's just normal platforming like 64 was.
