I tried to play a few Mario games in the past, but have never gotten into it.

Like why are people obsessed with Mario? What's the appeal of it?

Zelda, I can understand, sure, but Mario... how?

The least I hate is Mario Kart, that seems playable despite there being multiple versions of it (but I still hate it), somewhat... the others I don't get.

It’s fun and simple

Mario games were very popular in the boom of video games in the 1980s on NES and arcades. Then the 90s were retarded with boomers thinking video games were the pinnacle of violence and societal decay (hahahaha looking back at such innocent times) and Mario was a great option as Nintendo's family friendly top mascot. Nintendo commits to making mostly quality games with Mario in every single fucking genre, and here we are.

The 2D Mario games ie which is to say the real Mario is what sparked the phenomenon and I’m not talking about that low quality b-team Nintendo developer NSMB bullshit either but the original Mario games on the NES but especially Mario Brothers 3.

Those games are the reason Mario became a cereal, cartoon series and now movies and has a lasting cultural impact.

No one gives a fuck about the 3D games.

They generally sell like shit and quickly collect dust and go unplayed after the hype of a new release dies down.

Meanwhile the NES 2D Mario games remain relevant and are played both officially and emulated to this day and fans still await a proper sequel to Mario Brothers 3.

Super Mario World even though I personally loved it was a piss weak offering after SMB3.

Nintendo had clearly begun to lose interest in making maximum quality 2D Mario (what the fans actually wanted) by then as they’d become obsessed by their sick 3D fixation that nobody cares about and still does not care about.

Odyssey if it sold well at all likely only did so because of Covid like almost all the other games out during that time not because it was a good 3D Mario that people wanted.

No one talks about it anymore which is proof that it was shit like every other 3D Mario save for maybe the Galaxy games but even then they’d be far better as 2D offerings.

3D Mario is trash.

It’s not responsible for the Mario phenomenon.

Like AT ALL.

Which is just the facts.

Like them all you want but it’s the first three NES games which were 2D that are responsible for the phenomenon to this day.

Nothing, everything nintendog makes is overpriced horseshit

dunno i think jumping over stuff is stupid af and there's like a million similar scrolling games

Nostalgia probably.

In NES era it was the best platformer by far. Mario 2 and 3 are still one of the best.

First parts of Mario games are usually great, like Sunshine and Galaxy, later parts just seem like cheap copies. Like the platformers after the Mario 3.
