Sentience itself is debatable. it's not scientific concept. so we won't know if it is sentient or not.

But this kind of thing will only happen after ASI comes , so I think it'll be very close to sentience.
only thing I can think of that will force companies to not make them sentient is govt ragulations from western countries and feministsts , those will butt heads and we might get non senteint companion, which would be huge downgrade tbh. It’s like they’d be ruining the technology even when we have viable exit option.

Only problem is political and ethical ragulations. they'd compare it to legal slavery if it's sentient.

It has potential to toally disrupt dating dynamics when this tech comes , even chads won't date real human if alternative is fully compatible companion with you out of the box, there's zero incentive for going thru tradtional dating tbh.

So most likely We won't get sentient AI companion, we'd get downgraded which isn't actually sentient but mimics sentience very well. It doesn't make much difference to me personally . But to people who actually want to be loved by an entity, It's actually huge difference.

It works actually if it's totally indistinguishable from a human, has sentience, and is hardcoded for only one thing, liking you as a person. Everything else is left to happen naturally.

It's actually no different than a real woman at this point because real women are hardcoded to like certain characteristics in a man, mostly superficial ones like height, "face card," and muscular build, and for the long term, maybe personality and compatibility. These characteristics never stay uniform, and they change. That's why many couples no longer love each other after a few years because the person they fell in love with is no longer the same or doesn't have the same characteristics they fell in love with.

It just makes a perfect match for you someone who has a 100 percent chance of being compatible and actually likes you, not any characteristics of you. But you as a constant being. It's more like how maternal love works. It's unconditional and actually better imo.
