Everyone wants to leave my homeland for the Middle East, Canada, and Europe, they won’t teach their children their language or culture when they leave, their relatives will be strangers to them due to distance, and in 20 years they will be completely assimilated. I was thinking one day I should learn to speak Bengali, but what would be the point? I would be treated like an estranged relative back home and all the Bengalis my age don’t speak it proficiently. My relatives literally treat me like am mentally disabled while I am staying with them, I understand everything they say but I can’t respond like something mentally blocks me from coming up with the words.
