Honestly I don't like dragon ball z. The first one had great writing and a good cast of supporting characters which Z just trashed. I don't get why but I think that raditz is a good example of what. Goku's brother, someone who should be super important to him, is killed and never used or brought up again in a meaningful way. Beyond that, literally half the cast is either memes or just not used. Krillin? Yamcha?
The same vibe could've been accomplished if super sayian never became a thing. Goku always vastly overpowered the rest. But he didn't always have a god transformation that made him beat anyone he fought, or at least became necessary. It wrote toriyama into a corner once he had that, because the human characters could no longer be used. We also only really got Vegeta to replace that void, because Nappa and Raditz were dead. I wouldn't mind so much if the main cast just got replaced, because it's a stark contrast to dragon ball, but that is not the case. It's just written poorly.
