In the post-WW2 period, cheap housing, easy jobs, improvements in healthcare, food production, restrictions on women's rights, and men's monopoly over economic activity ensured that procreation was essentially a birthright but now population and competition are high, and standards are also high, and these two collectively exacerbate scarcity and selection pressure, leading to very few men who qualify as mates. Today, if you're not from a very strong bloodline, you're simply not going to reproduce or have a successful life. Period.
