i do the same routine and get pec strains and a 5lbs increase that goes away as soon as I switch to another program

While lifting you simulate too. So doing some combat sports is more real.
 
Are you eating enough of the right food? Unless you're a complete beginner you need a calorie surplus for significant muscle growth.

The thing is you have to cross a effort line to have results (body mass and endorphines). If you workout and dont cross that line is useless. Group activities like crossfit are great to learn how to push yout body through the limit.

Also, unless you have high bf, you need a calorie surplus to gain weight (thats my biggest problem)
