The most disappointing sequel to a game that I liked would have to be Half-Life 2. I have not played it in a long time, but I remember not liking the story because it was kind of generic since you were fighting the government like we've seen before in movies and other games. You couldn't kill your allies like in Half-Life 1 and you had to help this mutt Alyx. I thought the sound design was more iconic in Half-Life 1 and the atmosphere was way cooler. Not saying Half-Life 2 was a bad game, but it wasn't as unique as Half-Life 1 was for its time.

This video pretty much goes into more detail as to why I don't like it:

Thoughts on any other disappointing sequels to games you liked?

The last of us part 2’s story was pretty bad compared to the first one’s

Sniper Elite 5 was trash, especially the DLC

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. It was a buggy mess with weird mechanics that killed the company, Core Design.

Diablo 3. It's actually amazing how so many aspects of it are inferior to its predecessor.

Blood 2, that shit is beyond booty meat bro

Metal Gear Solid 2
Max Payne 2
Resident Evil 5 & 6
Bioshock Infinite
Assassin Creed 3
Resident Evil 3 (Remake too)

Watch Dogs Legion

Dude complains about HL2 but without segment about leaked HL2 build that some stupid German kid stole from Valve we can't really have a full picture.

He acts like nobody was impressed by HL2 physics which is a lie, not a single game before it made it so well as that game, nobody remembers about shitty Trespasser.

I remember about Psiops's throwing enemies around but nothing about the actual gameplay outside of that or story as it wasn't a very memorable game like HL2.

Yeah guns were much more boring in HL2 (thank you german fag) but level design was leagues above anything in HL1 that was just boring lab/outside lab/xen for entire game.

Story of HL2 is trash and should be scrapped and give us a bare minimum.

You can see he is a batshit crazy fanboying about HL1 and it just shows he can't be objective about HL2

Persona 5. Not a bad game by any means but I hated the aesthetic, hated the OST, and thought Joker was gay af

Pissona games were all gay asf wtf are you talking about

Why dont you like it ? I got it for free some months ago and it looks like they now made a nigger the main character now

Majora’s Mask
Twilight Princess
Wind Waker
Skyward Sword

Fallout New Vegas
Fallout 4

Mass Effect 3

It's more of a GTA than a proper Mafia game

In short, the story is a lot worse with a bunch of boring missions. The game also genuinely looks worse than Mafia 2 lol

Most of the missions are generic and repetitive. Felt like Ubisoft slop.

And yeah, it makes no sense for the protagonist of a game called mafia is a fucking nigger who isn't even in the mafia. Should've been an Italian mf as the protagonist, but then again the game came out in 2016 when wokeness was arguably at its peak.

Thanks for telling me, now i know better than to waste my time with that game

At least GTA missions are fun and feel different for the most part. Most of Mafia 3’s gameplay consists of driving around and clearing out cookie cutter enemy strongholds.

Eh most GTA 4 missions are sort of boing, but the dialogue makes up for it, like the dialogue is better than gameplay itself. At least I felt like that

While it wasn't quite as bad as New Vegas it just failed to grab me as a compelling environment and story.

That said I'm considering giving both games another shot since I have an awesome new gaming PC and endless time in order to MOG various oldschool games graphical/framerate requirements with my beastly current year graphics card the MSI 5070ti OC + intel (incel) processor.

Nice.

The reason I asked is Steam told me I had 2,000 hours in Skyrim, that's more than I work in a year and it instantly made skyrim feel old to me.

So I googled Fallout and convinced myself 4 was the one for me, taking into account the quality of everything and the ability to run it on my rig that I already have. 12 hours in and I'm loving it so far. I can see that it's just the Skyrim engine re-skinned as a post apocalyptic zombie shooter but I love the art style of it. And I'm a habitual stealth archer so those habits serve me well in fallout.

Nice.

The one for me or rather my favorite is Fallout 3.

I think the one I’ll give another try first is New Vegas since I’ve seen various gamers raving about it on many different sites and platforms for years now.

Though perhaps that might simply be online fanboyism overcompensating for the game being an inferior product to Fallout 3 the previous iteration?

Time I suppose (gameplay time that is) and further research (into sales figures) will objectively (for me anyway) tell the tale.

I think ultimately much like yourself I’ll end up ultimately preferring 4 over NV but again we shall see.

Tiger Woods 2000. 99 was a great game, bustling online community, had lots of fun and I was in the competitive scene.

2000 was actually unplayable, especially online and EA never fixed it. They just released 2001, which was decent but the series was never the same. That was my entry into realizing sports games are cash-in dogshit and it's only gotten worse.

FF12 was the death knell to the goat franchise.

watch dogs legions and saints row 4

i don't get why people like HL2 so much; i enjoyed the episodes but i can positively say i did not enjoy the main game.
some people talk about it like its the best game of all time, it just isn't. the gameplay was just meh, the story was nothing special; I did like the combine though.

for comparison I've played HL1 6 times, whilst for HL2 I've played it twice (the second time with a mod).

I recently finished Half Life 2 for good a while ago, gotta say I feel you man.
And to answer the thread, I'm a bit mixed about TLOZ Twilight Princess. It's an amazing game, I LOVE IT, buuuut I don't FEEL it as iconic as Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. That's hard asf tho, but it's more due to the story and the lore drop than anything else. The game is obviously better in almost every aspect than those two, but I can't seem to love it AS MUCH. I still love her tho. Yes I'm talking about Midna, if it wasn't for her I would not love the game as much.

9/10 in my books.

bump stocks are a felony

Watch Dogs 2, they improved the gameplay, but the story and characters were woke and childish so i dropped it.

Fallout 2 tbh. I loved the miserable, lonely atmosphere of Fallout (primary reason I played the game). Fallout 2 removed it nearly completely.
