I do not know how to explain the work of doublethink. Simply put, if you live under totalitarianism, like Soviet Union go, you will still be a member of the Communist Party and support communism, even if you hate communism and redness with all your soul. Because for any disagreement, you will be ostracized, deprived of your party ticket, which will prevent you from getting a good job and your life will become hell. There were tens of millions of Communist Party members in the Soviet Union in 1991, but none of them came out to defend the USSR.
