I think its mostly about looks but I think pheromones play a role too. That would also explain some outlier cases. A lot of people don't see it as plausible but there was a study about female strippers who got more tips from men when they were ovulating, and the amount of tips pretty much correlated with their menstrual cycle. There's was also a study about a male androgen, I can't remember if it was androstenol or androstenone, that caused women to have improved mood.

No unpopular opinions on my end. Perhaps that most that consider themselves incels haven't actually tried as much as others (usually the older in age members) and have given up due to constant denigration, low self esteem, and other life problems getting in the way of things.
