Surely an omniscient being would know exactly what you need without you asking for it. God could instantly read your mind to see what you desire and determine whether you believe in him, thus making prayer a pointless activity. This begs the question then as to why God demands that you pray to him. Does he get off to little humans begging for his help and affection? Is this a sadistic game of domination and submission to him? :waitwhat:

Moreover, it doesn't really take an omniscient being to guess what someone desires. Take a look at this homeless man for example:

Gee I wonder what this man could possibly want at that moment... I dunno guys this one is quite tricky... :feelstastyman:

Ohh, maybe a fucking roof over his head, some food and water, some money, and perhaps a foid to fuck assuming he is not a faggot. Why does God need him to get on his knees and beg like a dog for basic needs? Why not just show compassion to his creation without playing silly games? :feelsree::feelsree::feelsree:

There's no point, God doesn't exist brev.

its a good cope

Desperation makes man do crazy shit

Because he wants you to beg for something he will never actually help you with.

God is too busy jerking off to the carnage that he created.

Total goonicide :reeeeee:

Religoncels are always quiet on these kinds of threads.

It's a way of consoling oneself in the face of suffering. You also have that with philosophical currents and dogmas.

“What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.”

> what doesn't kill you leaves you broken, traumatized, even weakened for life.

“Everything happens for a reason.”

> to give meaning to the absurd or the unjust.

“The universe has a plan for you.”

> The universe is indifferent, but it feels good to believe it.

I dont wanna @ him but this is who I thought of when reading this post lmao

I do imagine some sort of rule encompassing being existing, I just hardly imagine them being ‘good’.

In my head, it makes sense they would just be similar to AI divinity; no real emotions, thoughts or moral alignment.

God ignores me.

I am of the opinion nobody should pray with the expectation that they'll even receive anything. Sometimes, it just feels nice to have the feeling that someone understands you.

A stork consumes the smallest and weakest in its brood or tosses it out of the nest to be eaten by another creature.

An extra, weaker mouth to feed with less chance of making it becomes a threat to the survival of the others and so its welcomed into the circle of life.

I don't know. Hard pill to swallow is that God doesnt wants us happy, its not His mission, He is not a genie in a bottle, nowhere in the Bible says that. I believe theres a reason but i dont know it, and im certain that humans being happy or content certainly isnt one of them. Its a God's world, not ours. Entire humanity is irrelevant. But again, Jesus became a human because of us, so i dont really know.

The point of prayer is not to influence God but to reorient ourselves toward the goal we're praying for.

The idea is that God gave us free will and taking the extra action to pray shows youre grateful

it's the cope of the stupid people

Here's the religious explanation:

why God demands that you pray to him.
To prove our effort and to show that we really wanted it.
You may ask, why would God need proof? It ties to judgement day, so that no one could say he wanted hard enough (which can't be measured) so having an action to compare makes it easier to quantify. Why would God need easier metric? God doesn't, it is for humans to understand his position.

Why not just show compassion to his creation without playing silly games?

I mean, it's explicitly said here (in my religion) that God loves who begs to him for stuffs. He is offended when someone goes without begging something for long.

Also it's said that when someone is in desperate need of something and prays, sometime God delays fulfilling his need so that he can enjoy his begging more.

I mean... interpret this as you wish, I have nothing to say.

Prayer is a talk with him and when you pray, you say your wish or words to him and he will do it. Something immediately , sometimes later or sometimes not. It natters on the prayer.

Then you didn't read the bible.

Probably a placebo benefit. If you're not retarded then it's pointless but for mindless NPCs it probably has psychological benefits.

Bingo. But, in reality, it's the result of tons of authors authoring many separate books (some books have multiple authors stretching over centuries). So, there's inevitably going to be unresolvable contradictions in everything Christians and Jews believe. The best Christian argument might as well be "divine reason transcends human reason, so these are contradictions to us but not to the divine." There probably has been an argument like that.

Would you say that most of the prophets, apostles, John the Baptist or even Jesus himself had a happy fulfilling lives? That they enjoyed? That they did what they desired? It seems like the closer you are to God the worse life you will have.

The entire point of abrahmic religon is enslave and torture yourself and others, and disguise it as love, it is evil to the point where I think it can be described as a potent form of jewry.

You get rewarded for praying

Prayer serves many purposes and obviously God knows what we want .I think much of prayer is a test of faith and God's wants to see how we pray .
Also, God first ,will only hear a prayer for salvation. You must be born again by declaring Jesus as your Savior. That prayer must come first !

The dumbest thing about prayer is that religious people already believe that everything that happens is part of "God's plan". So if everything is part of his plan, then prayer is pointless since the decisions have already been made.

Giving enough time for them to finish raping kids at church

To like feel better or something idk

I guess in the context of Christianity, wouldn't prayer actually be a form of "questioning God" which is in of itself a sin, since you are in essence trying to change His mind?

I am not religious at all as I am an atheist, but if there was a god, I think it would be more along the lines of what the original deists imagined...a sort of impersonal being who created the universe but takes no active role in its operation after setting everything in motion and is more like a passive observer. After all, wouldn't a hypothetical creator of the universe have better things to do than pay attention to the personal lives of some simple creatures on some random planet somewhere?
