Anime discussion used to be rife with one upmanship. I guess after many years of discussion, the jig is up for most people and they no longer think popular automatically = bad.
I don't agree with this, popular generally does prove to be bad. I am more than happy to take peoples obscure recommendations and use them to shortcut my own quote unquote 'journey' to good taste. Which is now seen as the worst affront of all but I don't care. I have only seen popular anime but I know others have seen many more than I have. I suspect the best anime is quite obscure, like most mediums.
