I know you live in Europe, but having a driver's license is just a basic requirement to survive in America. NYC is like the only exception. Zoning, most cities aren't really walkable, and we're generally not as big on public transport.
I would not be able to get to reliably get to work on time everyday using public transportation. There are busses, but they're often late and in my case I'd have to make at least one transfer and end up walking over a mile in total each way. And door to door it would take me like an hour and a half (each way). I can't imagine doing that all that shit everyday, especially when it's as hot as it's been recently. Also I wouldn't be able to work second or third shift since most of the busses stop running a certain time, and I was hired based on my availability (they just put me on whatever shift they need for that week). So really I wouldn't be able to work this job at all (or any job that isn't 1st shift only).
Sure, there's uber/lyft/waymo but that would add up to something like 35% of my salary if I did that everyday.
