Work and professional success can be an escape from an otherwise shitty life. When I'm working on some project, I don't feel lonely or ugly or unwanted. When money starts coming in because of something my brain created, it feels pretty good. Probably not as good as going to sleep while hugging your girlfriend but at least it's something positive.
