I put free in quotes because... in a way it's just a bit of a narrative isn't it really? That Western countries and certain others in the world are so free, not like those other countries with out of control governments!

I ask because recently I've heard of some of the most shocking laws of my lifetime.

The two that spring to mind are the "climate lockdowns" in Oxford and probably soon Canterbury - both here in the UK - and also the mandatory covid vaccination law for over-50s in Italy.

I mean, at least they were both only enforced with fines, but they're still absolutely abhorrent affronts to liberty if you ask me.

I just wondered if you guys had heard of any and where, and also if you think it's getting significantly worse.

you can't purchase sex in north america

EU is full of them
Don't even get me started.

Obscenity laws that outlaw various kinds of "pornography".

Climate lockdowns, weed and shrooms being illegal, bunch of other things.

Eminent domain - gives the government the right to seize your property when they deem fit, usually justified by some nebulous "greater good"

Eminent domain laws exist in most self proclaimed "free countries"

I heard about this recently yeah.

Something like they offer you a cash sum for it first and if you don't accept then they seize it?
