Stuff like in SMT Nocturne, there this one boss where he can give himself 1+ turns to buff his magic and use a high damaging magic move that hits all of your party. There are also circumstances on hard mode where he gets bugged and repeats on giving himself turns infinitely softlocking the game. Turns out he wasn't really that bad since he had a weakness and bad ai which is a good advantage in the game. I killed him first try, the only circumstance where he spams it is when you buff your magic defense, he goes fucking nuts after he sees you doing that.
Another funny example is Thracia 776, where in an turn-based strategy game, global status staves exist where enemies could cast the entire whole map with infinite range. It wasn't also really that bad unless if you're dumb enough. But one absolutely threatening thing about this design is the Berserk Staff where it turns one of your allies to aggro on you. It's complete a nuisance if you don't have a status removing staff, it's either trap the aggroed ally with units that can dodge his attacks or run away from him until it goes off. There's also another BS stuff in it where every weapon including staves will literally miss. If you know what this means, yeah, total BS I know, healing staves will also have the chance to miss.
If anyone remembers this, in Pokemon gen 3. Remember where you would have to get the rare af Feebas? Those specifically one tile encounter where nuts back in the day like who would've fucking know lol.
